Before Anesthesia
These instructions apply to patients who are scheduled to receive IV sedation or general anesthesia as part of their procedure. You will receive a written copy of these instructions at your consultation appointment. Certain medical conditions may modify your instructions, or disqualify you as a candidate for anesthesia in our office.
- You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for six (6) hours prior to the appointment. Please make your last meal prior to fasting a light meal with no alcohol.
- In most cases, we will instruct you to continue taking any prescription medications you may have. These may be taken with a sip of water at your usual time.
- A responsible adult must accompany you to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive you home.
- You should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes.
- Contact lenses, eyeglasses, jewelry, dentures and tongue piercings must be removed at the time of surgery. Please bring your regular cases for these items, or leave jewelry and piercings at home.
- Please do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- If you develop an illness such as a cold, cough, sore throat or indigestion, within 7 days prior to your surgery, please notify the office.
Instructions after Surgery
You will be provided with instructions to follow after your procedure on the day of your surgery. For your convenience, we have also posted them on-line here.
