David Molen, D.D.S., M.D. was born in Seattle and raised in the South King County community of Auburn, graduating from Auburn High School. After going to college in Utah, he returned to Seattle to attend the University of Washington School of Dentistry, from which he graduated with honors. After dental school, he was accepted directly into a residency program for training as a specialist.
Dr. Molen completed a six-year residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Some of the first orthognathic (jaw) surgery and dental implant surgery procedures performed in the United States were done at the Mayo Clinic by the pioneers in these fields from Germany and Sweden, and the doctors they trained were some of Dr. Molen’s instructors. While at this respected and cutting-edge institution, Dr. Molen was trained in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, managing a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions.
Dr. Molen is a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, which places him in an exclusive category of oral surgeons. To become board certified, Dr. Molen was required to demonstrate extensive training, experience and knowledge in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in order to qualify for oral examination by the certifying board. Very few oral surgeons fulfill the requirements to be examined by the board, and successful completion of this process by Dr. Molen means that you are assured he is extremely competent in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
David G. Molen, DDS, MD, practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from corrective jaw surgery to wisdom tooth removal. He can also perform a full range of dental implant and bone grafting procedures. Dr. David G. Molen has the specialized education and training in the complexities of the bone, skin, muscles and nerves involved, to ensure you get the best possible results for your implants. Dr. Molen is the only board certified oral surgeon and medical doctor in the local area.
He also received intensive training in the administration of anesthesia, functioning exclusively as an anesthesia resident, and administering anesthesia to his own patients in the Mayo Clinic’s outpatient Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinic.
The Mayo Clinic is well known for the principle of putting the interests of patients first and foremost in all aspects of care, and Dr. Molen firmly believes in this principle. Dr. Molen knows that as Dr. William Mayo said: “The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered.” The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program at the Mayo Clinic is integrated with the Mayo Medical School, meaning that while in training Dr. Molen obtained a Doctor of Medicine Degree and license to practice medicine. Dr. Molen is licensed to practice both Dentistry and Medicine in the State of Washington, which enables him to provide the highest and most comprehensive quality of care to his patients. Dr. Molen also is licensed to administer general anesthesia in his practice.
